#ISWInsight - Jared Roberts - IBM Champion - Welcome to ISW!

I have been enjoying reading the blog series from one of our great Kudos Boards partners in Europe -panagenda - called #panagendaPride. Danny Klaus has been doing a regular post about his team members, what they do, and what their interests are (great work Danny). I know a lot of the panagenda team and consider many of them good friends so it is always great to learn more about them.

So in the spirit of immitation is the best form of flatery, I have decided to give it a go myself and start a similar series on the great team at ISW - #ISWInsight

And to kick it off I am very excited to announce the latest member at ISW - Jared Roberts - Senior Software Engineer. I have known Jared in the IBM Collaboration community for many years, and had quite a few beers over that time. Last year Jared was nominated as an IBM Champion for Collaboration so we are pumped to have Jarod join the team at ISW. We also have a common love of grilling meat on the weber so I am sure we will have a few good cookups over the years ahead!

1) What’s your name and what exactly do you do with ISW?

Jared Roberts - Senior Software Engineer. I have just joined ISW as part of the national consulting team - providing expertise in Collaboration & Cloud Technologies. I'll be involved in IBM Connections, Portal, Sametime, Notes/Domino, WebSphere, SoftLayer, ISW's Cloud42 platform & Innovation/Modernisation offerings - and anything else that is thrown at me! Really looking forward to it!

2) Any random facts you could share with us?

I the drummer for Desecrator - heavy metal band from Melbourne. I can play 4 instruments. I'm a Dad of 2. I'm a pretty handy BBQ cook. I'm generally terrible at all sports.

3) Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I'm a bit of a plane nerd and have a quiet appreciation for commercial aviation and engineering.. ask me about it and we'll talk for hours... I've no idea why... it's just a thing.

4) Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?

Yosemite National Park in California. One of the most stunning places on Earth. The Sequoia Trees are spectacular!

5) What is the first concert you attended?

I've been going to concerts my whole life so I can't remember the first... but the BEST was AC/DC - Rod Laver Arena in 2003. Although I've seen them 3 times since then - that was a stand-out - great vibe, band was rocking, and LOUD!

New Blog Design & Domain

Welcome to CollaborationBluePrint.com.au my new blog design and place to talk about what I am doing and thinking! I had been using the older brownblog for the last few years and I decided it needed a facelift. I also wanted to refocus my blogging to what I am really doing which is helping our clients to better collaborate.

I have this idea of a collaboration blueprint. A map or detailed design if you like of what business and people need to enable collaboration. In fact not just collaboration for the sake of it but collaboration that has a positive impact on what we do. Collaboration that improves our work and helps us achieve our objectives. This blueprint isn't about specific industries but rather about the different facets and tools needed by people to work with other people online, offline, in the office, remote, mobile, next to each other, or on the other side of the world. Hence the new domain collaborationblueprint.com.au.

So as these ideas come together I am going to present them here. I am still going to continue to use the blog as a way of documenting or recording some of the more technical work I am doing. I have found this to be a neat way or recording techniques I use so that I can use them again in the future. Hopefully this also has the effect of helping a few other people that are facing similar challenges. And off course I will still have the occasional personal topic or just a comment on something I find interesting.

IceTV Guide Via Notes Sidebar

I just purchased a BeyonWiz DP-S1 PVR. It is a Dual HD receiver with 250 GB drive, wireless access, etc etc. For those in overseas etc reading this it probably isn't a big deal but PVR's are relatively new devices in Australia. In particular ones with downloaded TV program guides. The great thing about the BeyonWiz is that it supports IceTV's Interactive service which allows you to program the recorder via a web site. The Beyonwiz then periodically connects to the IceTV service and downloads the current schedule of things to record. So for someone that travels as much as I do and constantly rings home to ask for something to be recorded that is just great.

But it gets even better. IceTV have a service for mobile devices at http://remoterecord.com.au that allows me to log on from a Blackberry browser for instance. But even cooler is that using my Lotus Notes 8.0.1 Sidebar I have created a Widget that automatically logs onto the site and shows me the TV Guide. I can simply select what I want recorded from my sidebar and the Beyonwiz is updated!

Now that is a great use of the Notes 8 Sidebar Widgets if you ask me!
